CVYB Brings Swing to the Nutcracker!

What has Big Band swing music from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and The Sultans of Swing? The jazzy new Holiday favorite, “Nutcracker Swings!” from The Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet!  An original work choreographed for the CVYB by famed New York City dancer Francis Patrelle, this jazzy new Nutcracker is sure to be loved by young and old alike. Set in the 1940’s, Nutcracker Swings! takes you back to a more innocent time when teenagers gathered over sodas and ice cream cones at the local soda shoppe. A serious student of history, Mr. Patrelle and the CVYB staff studied the area to set the story in true 1940’s fashion. They didn’t have to look far to find Saywell’s Drugstore in Hudson as the inspiration for the soda shoppe, and the nearby pond at Western Reserve Academy as the setting for the beautiful ice skating scene.

This charming new tale has a fabulous magical land, enough soldiers to take on an army of mice, and a story that will captivate your whole family. Remaining faithful to the CVYB’s mission of providing the finest original performances, Nutcracker Swings! comes complete with intricate sets and costumes designed from beautiful fabrics found in the textile shops of New York City.

Performances will take place at the brand-new Our Lady of the Elms School’s Ann Amer Brennan Theater, 1290 West Market Street in Akron, on Saturday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m.  Following each performance, join us for a basket raffle, refreshments, live Swing Band music, and a story reading and treat bag for the kids from Mr. and Mrs. Claus!  General admission seating is now available, with ticket prices of $17 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under.
